I think it will be more like a co-director/co-editor/co-writer. I mean, she is being recorded too, and unless she put on hold her other jobs for the rest of the year, she can't be following the filming crew all the time.
ReplyDeleteAnd AKB's documentaries use so many cameras spread over so many places... the director needs to walk around with 10 phones all the time, keeping track of what is happening, and that for a very long time (that is, if this documentary is similar to the others, that covers a period of many months). With so much footage to be watched and chosen, the editing is ridiculously long and tiresome too.
Also, what about the technical part, does Sashi already knows enough about cameras, lenses, illumination, takes, angles, all the 'hardware' stuff?
I think she will be more like a "Creative Director", telling the "Technical Director" what she wants, how and when... then leaving him/her to film it.
A day to day documentary director is different from a film director. She does not need to be with the crew. Most of the footage are already shot. 48G have the habit of filming everything.
DeleteWhat she needs to really do as a director is to arrange the footage and decide which direction the film is going.

ReplyDeleteSaying that Sashihara will be "the director" is just a way to get publicity for the documentary, at most she will just watch the tapes and select what may go in the documentary.
I remember one tweet she posted saying the scenes selected for the latest AKB's documentary were not interesting. Well, since it seems she knows how to do everything now management decided she will do whatever she wants.
I don't think Sasshi will occupy the role of traditional director neither, she may just focus on scene selection, but I don't think it is an easy job to filter 4 years record neither.
ReplyDeletep.s. I wonder if it will have b/w screen this time XD
As first-time director, I'm hoping Sashi will go for some type of "twist" type ending like M. Night Shyamalan always does.

ReplyDeleteWait, what kind of twist a documentary could possibly have?
Like, in the end all HKT members are shown to actually be graduated AKB members, but with make-up and props, and they have fooled us for all these years?
